Mullumbimby Northern NSW
On Wednesday April 2, 2008, students from St John’s Primary School, Mullumbimby attended an Aussie Sport Skills Contest held at the Les Donnelly Field, Mullumbimby. The Aussie Sport Skills Contest tests the students’ skills in kicking goals and field goals, performing accurate grubber and punt kicks, passing the football and sprinting over 40metres.
A team of local footballers including Mullumbimby Giants President, Mr Scott Hogan and the coach of Mullumbimby Giants Group 1 premiership winning side, Mr Damon Scott, joined former rugby league great and Aussie Sport Skills Ambassador, Graham Eadie in testing the skills of all Yr 5 & Yr 6 students.
The Aussie Sport Skills Contest is part of a national contest in which students are tested at a local level and over time their results are compared to those of other students across the nation. The best performances from each school/club are posted on the internet enabling students to compare their results with that of other students of the same age.
St John’s School Principal, Mrs Bernie Thompson said it was a good opportunity for students to take part in healthy, active activities. The contest also allowed students to learn new skills while others had the opportunity to demonstrate the high level of skill they have already developed.
