The Aussie Sport Skills Contest School Finals took place under clear skies on Saturday May 10, 2008 at Kitchener Park, Gunnedah.
The day began with a Coaching Clinic for junior league players run by Aussie Sport Skills Testing Officer, Matt Fitzgerald. Approx. 50 youngsters were put through a number of training drills to enhance their passing, catching, tackling and kicking skills. All enjoyed the activities and benefited greatly from the expertise and equipment provided by the organisers.
The Aussie Sports Skills Contest began at 11.00am. This event was contested by students in the Under 12 yrs age group from three Gunnedah Primary Schools; Gunnedah Public, South Gunnedah Primary and St Xavier’s Primary School. The first round of events included the 40 m sprint, pass the ball competition and goal kicking contest. Great performances were witnessed with the Under 12 yrs players demonstrating skills beyond their years.
The second round of events tested the students’ ability in grubber kicking, field goal kicks and punt kicking. Once again some strong performances were witnessed.
