Coolangatta Gold Info 2008
The NIB 2008 Coolangatta Gold Event took place on October 19th, 2008. Alyce Bennett, competing for the third time in this grueling event was well-prepared for what lay ahead. Having placed 10th in the event in 2006 and 4th in 2007, Alyce was keen to claim a place on the winner’s podium.
From Surfer’s Paradise Beach, a good start in the ski leg saw her enter the beach at Elephant Rock close behind race leaders. After a short sprint across the beach, Alyce was well positioned as she commenced the board leg. Exiting the water for the second time, Alyce was placed 6th as she began the swim from Burleigh Heads Beach to North Burleigh. With a strong swim leg and well executed run over North Burleigh Headland, Alyce put herself in third position as she made her way north along the beach towards the finish line at Surfer’s Paradise.
Putting distance between herself and fellow competitors, Alyce held her position and completed the race in third place. This was a great achievement which was duly celebrated by her many family members and support team who rallied on the day to support Alyce’s quest for success.
